The Tall Ships Races 2024

The Tall Ship Races 2024 are set to be a spectacular maritime event, taking place across several European cities from June to August. This prestigious event will see magnificent tall ships, ranging from classic to modern, sailing and competing in a series of races and port festivals. The itinerary for 2024 includes starting points and stops at iconic maritime countries such as Lithuania, Finland, Estonia, the Åland Islands and Poland.

The event is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of maritime heritage, international friendship, and youth development. Participating ships are often crewed by young people, many of whom experience sailing for the first time. The Tall Ship Races promote intercultural exchange and personal growth as the young crews navigate the challenging seas and work together as a team.

In each port, the ships will be open to the public, allowing visitors to tour the vessels, meet the crews, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of festivals featuring music, food, and cultural events. The Tall Ship Races 2024 promise to be a memorable celebration of seafaring tradition and international camaraderie, bringing together sailors and spectators from around the world. Some of the ships are over 100 years old.

What is event called The Tall Ships Races 2024?

Tallshipsturku sums whole event pretty well in this words:

”Over 60 impressive sailing vessels from a total of 17 different countries have registered for the event in Turku. There will be kilometers of sailing ships, some of which are over a hundred years old. In addition to participants from the European area, Aura River will be welcoming ships from as far as South America.

In addition to numerous sailing boats, the maritime summer event offers the audience an immersive program, including crew competitions, music performances, and a parade. From Friday to Saturday, a music festival called Slot Festival will also be held in Turku Castle Park. Festival tickets are available for purchase at Lippupiste.

The event area in the lower reaches of the Aura River will be opened to the public on Tuesday, July 16th.”

Whole event is supposed to be more fun and enjoyable experience than just hardcore competition. Also ”The Race” is more like a expo or fair -kind of event in every port. In that we mean that all the people are welcome to join to be part of the fun. Many people from VALO Hotel & Work are joining to this party. 🙂

Other notices

During Finland’s largest public event, the City of Turku and its partners are dedicated to raising awareness about the state and preservation of the Archipelago Sea.

Throughout the event week, efforts to clean the Aura River will be intensified in collaboration with the Keep the Archipelago Tidy association. The association’s garbage collection boat, Roska-Roope, will actively clean the Aura River during the event. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from event business packages will be donated to charitable causes that support the protection of the Archipelago Sea.

In preparation for the event, the Aura River has undergone dredging, which increases the river’s flow and improves water exchange, thereby enhancing the overall condition of the Archipelago Sea.
