The VALO Hotel & Work Helsinki property was recently awarded an Excellent-level BREEAM In-Use environmental certification. The BREEAM In-Use certification examines both building and property management. An Excellent-level rating is rare; only 7% of certified properties achieve this level, and only a few properties are certified.
We are delighted to have received this certification for our property, as it demonstrates that we have made meaningful, responsible choices. VALO’s sustainability is based on energy and material choices and spaces that transform from accommodation to work and meetings according to our customers’ needs. In addition, sustainability is considered for every choice at VALO, from room soap to restaurant offerings.
We would like to thank our sister company and property developer DU Properties, for the certification and all the planning and construction parties involved in VALO Hotel & Work for their good work and the right choices. We also thank our certification partner Green Building Partners Oy, for their good work.
Responsible choices are far-reaching and enable flourishing in various different futures. Minimizing energy consumption is important from a climate perspective, but it also ensures that energy is available where it is needed when it is limited.
VALO Hotel & Work’s Design Director Minna Hurme commented on the event: “An Excellent-level environmental rating is a significant indication that a lot of attention was paid to the sustainability of solutions and materials in the project’s design phase. The versatility of the spaces increases the property’s utilization rate, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint per produced service. The property’s materials and furniture have been designed with sustainability in mind. They are largely made from renewable natural resources, are recyclable and long-lasting.”
DU Properties CEO Tuomo Mertaniemi added: “The certification awarded to VALO Hotel & Work is now a clear indication that the time of single-use properties is over.”
