Christmas holidays are behind us, and the change of year will be celebrated once again on the night between Saturday and Sunday. The New Year in Helsinki includes many events, which we present in more detail in this text.
At Helsinki’s Kansalaistori, the change of the year is celebrated after two exceptional years in a very spectacular way in the form of a more significant event. The partygoers arriving at the place will be entertained by Isac Elliot and Cledos, one of Finland’s top artists. There will also be a lot of additional programs for all ages. The evening ends with traditional fireworks.
As usual, the event starts with the Children’s New Year, organized annually by the City of Helsinki. As the name suggests, this is a concert aimed at the family’s youngest members, and this year’s program includes Pakkasdisco. Children’s New Year culminates with fireworks starting at 6 p.m.
The late-night concert starts at 10:30 p.m. and is led by the Paha Vaanii DJ-duo, after which Hassan Maikal, a rising artist, will appear on stage. Before the main speakers of the evening, there will be a speech by the mayor of Helsinki, Juhana Vartiainen.
After the city’s joint fireworks display at midnight, the party continues at Kansalaistori until half past midnight, accompanied by domestic music played by the Paha Vaanii DJ-duo.
Emma Karasjoki and Gogi Mavromichalis are the hosts of the celebratory concert, which can be seen on Yle channels.
In the new year, the city of Helsinki organizes two (mentioned above) official fireworks, which are scheduled until 18:00 and at midnight in Helsinki’s Kansalaistori market.
In addition to the celebration organized by the city, there are numerous other unofficial places in Helsinki where it is possible to see rockets.
Different city districts’ own fireworks are mainly organized by the residents and thus unofficial. Most of the fireworks organized in previous years have been scheduled for the early evening, between 19:00 and 20:00, so that even the smallest members of the families have been able to enjoy them.
In addition to the events organized by the city of Helsinki, the turn of the year is also celebrated in the form of many smaller events. It is possible to find out more about these events, for example, through Helsingin Sanomat’s Menokone service.
